Proper care for your records can easily be broken down into four primary steps:

1. Handling

• Touch only the edges: Never touch the grooved playing surface. Always handle the record by its outer edge and the center label to prevent the transfer of skin oils, which act as a magnet for dust and dirt.
• Remove and insert with care: Always slide the record smoothly into its sleeve, avoiding dropping or forcing it.

2. Storage

• Store vertically: Never stack records horizontally. The weight and pressure will cause permanent warping over time.
• Control the climate: Store your records upright like books in a cool, dry area away from direct sunlight, radiators, or damp areas to prevent heat damage.

3. Cleaning

• Dry clean before playing: Use an anti-static carbon fiber brush to sweep away loose surface dust before and after every spin.
• Wet clean when necessary: For accumulated grime, use a dedicated cleaning solution (or a mixture of distilled water and a drop of dish soap) and wipe in the direction of the grooves. Never use tap water, glass cleaner, or high-proof rubbing alcohol, as these can permanently damage the vinyl.

4. Turntable Maintenance

• Clean your stylus: A dirty needle will push gunk into your record grooves. Use a soft stylus brush or specialized gel pad to gently clean the needle, always moving from back to front.
• Upgrade your sleeves: Ditch standard paper inner sleeves, which can cause micro-scratches and leave behind paper lint. Replace them with high-quality, anti-static rice paper inner sleeves (avoid the poly-lined ones to lessen microplastic impact to the environment).
